The inline instrument based on refractometer technology monitoring liquid concentration, contributes to three application areas within kraft chemical pulp mills.
1. Monitoring black liquor in real-time is a safety measurement for recover boiler operation in kraft chemical pulp mills. Running a recover boiler will set lower limits on black liquor dry solids for safe burning.
2. Prior to feeding the recovery boiler with defined high dry matter, the same black liquor will need to pass through evaporators for removal of water to achieve a high dry solids content.
3. Prior to the evaporators the pulp brown stock goes through washer drums where the consumed fluid wash volumes are expected to have an optimized sweet spot. Sparce amounts of wash fluid may not wash the pulp stock sufficiently and will lead to a need of more bleaching chemicals in paper production. While too much washer fluid will entail larger energy consumption efforts in the evaporators to achieve black liquor with high dry solids content.
