CONTINUOUS ONLINE STIFFNESS MEASURE
Aurelia’s on-line stiffness measure reports MD and CD TSI continuously on the paper machine, as the paper is being manufactured, by utilising well proven ultrasonic technology. An ultrasonic wave is propagated through the moving paper sheet by contacting wheels. The wheels transmit and receive ultrasonic waves through the paper and the measurement is suitable for a wide range of paper weights and machine speeds. The propagated waves are captured and evaluated using proprietary algorithms to remove noise and the system produces numerical values for MD TSI, CD TSI and MD/CD Stiffness ratio reporting every few seconds as the paper is produced. This information is then available to the PSM-Q quality interface for display, profiling, trending and logging. The quality interface is designed to operate in stand-alone mode or connected directly to mill control or logging systems using standard process technologies such as 4-20 mA, serial and OPC.
